Are frequent heart palpitations common with SVT?

I have been having palpitations 4-5 times a day. I was diagnosed with SVT about 2 months ago and am taking 25 mg. of Metoprolol twice daily. I was diagnosed by my general doctor using a stress test. I like to go jogging but my face is still turning as red as a stop sign. Although I am doing better than before I was medicated. I only drink one cup of caffeinated tea daily. Are these palpitations normal? They are very uncomfortable and I'm not sure if I should be worried. I am currently out of state for the summer and have no doctor here. Would birth control increase the occurence of palpitations and high heart rate?
