Can someone who files bankruptcy still by a house down the road?

I have heard alot of rumors about bankruptcy, I was just curiouse if someone files can they still buy a new house later and get new credit? Is bankruptcy like a 2nd chance clean slate or what? Just curiouse, and if someone has files give me your feed back good or bad. Thanks
