How do I flirt? Should religion get in the way?

I am a freshman in high school and there is this boy in my Biology cl, he is super-cute and absolutely a gentleman. I'm not sure how exactly to go about discreetly letting him know that I like him. And he is Mormon and I am christian (we are both pretty dedicated to our religions) should this get in the way?
