Why do guys think if youre friendly to them, youre gay or something?

i see it sometimes when i talk to a random guy , just try to start a friendly chat and they act suspicious sometimes as if youre hittin on them or somethin. maybe it has something to do with all the gay stuff going on around my college campus...
