Why is it that girls always go for the douche bag guy? teenage girls 15-17?

I'm 15 and a sopre in high school. I'm a captain on my school's JV football team and our wrestling team, and I'm told I'm good looking pretty often. I'm nice and gentlemanly, I hold doors open for girls, gentlemanly stuff like that, but I'm not one of those little pushover guys. There's this other guy who's pretty much the same description except he's a total douche bag who thinks with his and only talks about getting some new every week. He's y as hell, and usually can't complete a sentence without dropping a couple f bombs. why is it that almost all of the girls flock to him, while they think of me as 'just a friend'?
